Acupuncture

Although many people are familiar with acupuncture, many are unsure of how it works. "So...how will sticking a needle in my foot make my headache go away?" people ask, as they back slowly towards the door.

It's important to understand that Chinese medical theory views the body in a very different way than the western medical field. Western medicine tends to focus on symptoms, and treats these symptoms as the body's primary problem. This is an incredibly useful mode of thought when the symptom really IS the problem-for instance, with a broken bone-but it does have its limitations. Chinese medicine, on the other hand, views the body as an integrated whole. Symptoms are indications of a root imbalance, and if that imbalance is addressed, the symptoms will be alleviated.

What Is Five Element Theory?

Five Element Theory helps you understand how natural changes within your body and outside environment affect your health. To predict and understand these dynamic changes, ancient doctors studied nature to determine what universal principles existed that could be applied to health and well-being. Five Element Theory is what they came up with.

The Five Seasons (winter, spring, summer, late summer and fall) correspond to the five elements (water, wood or plant life, fire, earth and metal or minerals) which express themselves in our body, mind and spirit. These elements were selected based on the observations of ancient oriental philosophers who theorized that the natural world embodied these elemental characteristics. Oriental Medicine uses this time-tested, diagnostic model to analyze how the various parts of a person's body and mind interact to affect health.

Yoga

Yoga is a scientific system of physical and mental practices that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. Its purpose is to help each one of us achieve our highest potential and experience enduring health and happiness. Yoga benefits the body on a structural level, helping to align the vertebrae, increase flexibility, and strengthen muscles and connective tissue. At the same time, internal organs are toned and rejuvenated. Many organ systems are purified of toxins and waste matter. The nervous and endocrine systems are balanced and toned. Brain cells are nourished and stimulated. The end result is increased mental clarity, emotional stability, and a greater sense of overall well-being. Private Yoga sessions are available for a personal practice or individual therapeutic needs.

 Medical Qi Gong

Qi Gong is the foundation of all Chinese Medicine. Qi is the vital force that permeates all things in the Universe. Qi Gong healing is a technique that guides and directs the Qi for health and balance, making sure that all parts of the body are being fed. During a session the diseased Qi is drawn out, so healthy Qi is able to penetrate the area. Qi Gong healing is used for all health challenges from everyday imbalances to more serious conditions.

"Qigong is a unique system of energy cultivation incorporating matter and spiritual characteristics to achieve an innate balance of energy. It is an effective way to absorb Qi from the universe, including core energy and basic elements (the fundamental particulate materials essential to life), which fight disease and improve health."

Cupping

Cupping utilizes vacuum suction onto the skin surface. The cups, always placed on the back, assist in the release of stagnation and promote a smooth flow of blood and qi. Cupping helps to release the muscles and nerves, relieving pain and discomfort. Cupping therapy can help with a wide range of disorders, the most common being back pain, asthma, digestive disorders and common colds.

A flammable substance, such as alcohol, herbs, or paper is placed in a cup made of glass, metal, wood, or bamboo. The material inside the cup is set on fire. As the fire goes out, the cup is placed upside down over qi pathways, places on the body that according to traditional Chinese medicine, are linked to the patient's illness. It is usually left in place 5 to 10 minutes.

As the air inside the jar cools, it creates a vacuum, which causes the skin to rise. This opens up the skin's pores and creates a route for toxins to escape the body. The skin under the cup reddens as blood vessels expand.

Heart-Based Healing

Sufi heart-based healing is a way to clear the emotional veils that block us from knowing who we really are at the core essence of our being. In holding on to the veils, we sacrifice vital energy. This keeps us from experiencing our true alignment with the Divine essence that permeates existence. In Sufism, the belief is that the heart is a microcosm of the body, mind and soul. A major part of the Sufi healing is to heal through the heart and remove these veils of unhealthy beliefs and experiences that cover our hearts. It is the illusions that keep us in separation from the light within and the unifying force of love. When the illusions are transformed, deep and lasting healing  takes place. We are able to connect more deeply with our true essence, our loved ones and every part of our life. Emotional and physical suffering is alleviated, and change is lasting.

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it."-Rumi
